Bridge Kingdom reading order
Danielle L. Jensen’s Bridge Kingdom novels in publication order — three couple duologies in one war — later books labeled so The Twisted Throne is not book one.
Start here
The Bridge Kingdom
It is book one. The later duologies assume that first crossing. Do not start with The Inadequate Heir because a new couple is on the cover. Do not start with The Twisted Throne.
One war, three couple pairs. Publication order is the only path that keeps the later pairs from spending the earlier endings. Jensen’s site and the Del Rey series page list them in one line.
The novels
| # | Title | Year | Notes | Amazon |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2018 | Start here. Lara and Aren. | Amazon | |
| 2 | 2020 | Closes the first pair. | Amazon | |
| 3 | 2022 | New pair. After the first two. | Amazon | |
| 4 | The Endless War | 2023 | Closes the second pair. | Amazon |
| 5 | The Twisted Throne | 2024 | Third pair. Not an on-ramp. | Amazon |
| 6 | 2026 | Announced close of the third pair. After The Twisted Throne. Not book one. | Amazon |
House rule: read 1–2, then 3–4, then 5–6. Each pair looks like a new series on a shelf. It is not.
Del Rey reprints added material in later editions. Same novels. A Fate Inked in Blood is a different Jensen shelf.
Penguin listed The Tempest Blade for 14 April 2026 when this page was checked. If that date moves, the placement does not: after The Twisted Throne.
Common mistakes
- Starting with The Inadequate Heir because Keris is the new hardcover.
- Starting with The Twisted Throne because Ahnna is the new pair.
- Treating book three as Bridge Kingdom 1 of a spin-off you can read first.
- Mixing in A Fate Inked in Blood as book 7.
What to read next
- From Blood and Ash (Jennifer L. Armentrout) — If you want another long romantasy run with a correct first book.
- The Empyrean (Rebecca Yarros) — If you want another unfinished-feeling romantasy with a strict door.
- Captive Prince (C. S. Pacat) — If the political-marriage temperature was the hook, in a finished three.
- Lady of Darkness (Melissa K. Roehrich) — If you want another completed dark-court shelf whose later extras look like book one.
- Stop after The Traitor Queen. The first pair is a complete visit.
FAQ
Can I start at book three?
No. The second pair spends the first war.
Do I need all six?
No. The first two end a couple. The war does not.
Is Tempest Blade out?
Check the publisher series page. Placement is after The Twisted Throne either way.
