Mr. Mercedes
Holly is introduced in the first Bill Hodges novel (2014). Holly (2023) is her name on the spine, not her first appearance. Do not start there.
This is the full Holly path: three Hodges novels, then the books where she is the investigator you came for. Publication order matches her working life. There is no chronological reshuffle to argue about.

If It Bleeds is a four-story collection. You only need the title novella for this path. The other stories are King extras, not secret Holly novels.
The HBO Outsider series and the Mr. Mercedes show are cousins. They do not agree with each other, and they are not a reading order.
